Preparing for 4Q 2009
By David C. Hovey, FAIA
Looking back on nearly
three quarters of this
year so far, we take stock
and assess our goals for the year and begin strategizing
for 2010. What did we set out to accomplish? Primarily,
to obtain new project sites, both here and in Arizona. I
am pleased that we have achieved both.
This year we also set out to enter the social media
outlets and position ourselves in a way no developer has
to date, by employing these avenues not just to promote,
but to educate, inform and highlight what we do on so
many levels.
We created our own Facebook and Twitter pages to
target a triad – prospective homebuyers and agents, architects and our residents. We not only convey news that
highlights selling a wonderful selection of floor plans
at Optima Old Orchard Woods and Optima Camelview
Village, but also emphasizes Optima’s other two core
elements: design and community. On an ongoing basis,
we focus on reaching out to the architecture worlds and
the neighborhoods in which we reside, keeping both
apprised of unique offerings. For example, the recent
AIA Chicago Tour of Old Orchard Woods on August
5, led by our design team, provided a technical tour of
the development and a cocktail hour for these peers to
mingle and ask questions.
Fostering a community spirit at each development is
a key factor in Optima’s mission. In addition to monthly
resident events, we endeavor to contribute and give back.
In September, we are sponsoring activities for a “Patriots
Weekend” in appreciation of our veterans and our troops
on active duty. Not only do the Optima sales teams
welcome veterans with VA-approved housing, but our
staff and residents will also reach out to help prepare
care packages for our troops serving overseas to receive
in time for Veterans Day this year.
These aspects of marketing originate in-house. We are
constantly engaged in internal dialogues. The brainstorming and communication streams enable us to capture the
best ideas relevant to the market - today’s homebuyers
and real estate representatives – as well as the greater
community. We listen to these constituencies in order
to conceive and implement thoughtful incentives and
to develop meaningful relationships.
I think our success over the past three decades is owed
not only to pursuing excellence in design, construction
and environmental awareness, but to the homeowners that reside in our family of projects, and who have
referred us to family and friends over this span of time.
Now we are positioned to communicate our progress
and plans instantly to all of them, and to encourage
new followers of our current and future developments,
and the lifestyles they offer.
